Sticking to the texts according to the understanding of the السلف الصالح is the correct way.
Who are the salaf?
They consist of : As - Sahaba Tabi’un Atba Tabiee’n
The last generation having giants such as Imam Ahmed رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ Yahya Bin Maee’n رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ
The Khalaf who are the latecomers are also influential
Such as Sheykh Al Islam Ibn Taymiyyah رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ Also Ibn Qudamah Al Maqdisi رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ who was the most grounded in fiqh. He was on par with Al Awzaee رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ.
Sticking to the ulema is necessary. The السلف الصالح transmitted the religion to us by way of hearing and obeying the reports. If we want to be like these pious men we should read their biographies and reflect on how they were with dawah and worshipping Allah ﷻ
