Republican Rep. Mike Lawler of New York says he thinks gerrymandering is "fundamentally wrong" and that the U.S. needs to "ban mid-decade redistricting." https://youtu.be/gSpoG9T7XiQ

@matthewmccarter3284

Maybe he shouldn't belong to a party that is historically known for underhanded deals and outright cheating. But since he's a republican you know he's only saying it for personal gain.

@dontbemad628

He had nothing to say when it was being discussed by Texas Republicans months ago.

@Chips505

@markwilliams6378

Start with your own party that voted unanimously to keep it

@JacquelineStapleton-im1kk

Perhaps he shouldn’t have voted against legislation that banned gerrymandering as every single republican voted against…

@jacobgates1986

Ya right, that's why he voted against banning gerrymandering, TWO TIMES. Yet almost all of the Dems voted yes to banning gerrymandering.

@philipfontaine8964

No gerrymandering. One citizen, one vote. Honest and accurate representation in Washington, stop all gerrymandering.

@JohnHolmes-h9v

He says that because he's from New York and not Texas

Or, here's an idea, INCREASE THE REPRESENTATIVES IN CONGRESS! The current number, 435, was set in 1929! Our population has tripled since then. My state's Representative, Delaware, stands for almost 1 million people. That and grant statehood to DC and Puerto Rico!

@dvrbt2866

Taking sides on this just shows you're a hypocrite. I want term limits for these incompetent criminals!

@LarrySanders-l3p

There are about 250 too many people in congress. Need to do away with the electoral college, and let them fight it out for the popular vote.

@loredanadodson1602

Tell that to your party !

@themaestro3034

National ban on redistricting was proposed in the House of Reps in 2021 and every single Republican voted against it. You reap what you sow now, congressman. Good bye.

@sandrahildebrand4283

Gerrymandering IS solely about political PARTY power, it’s NOT about good governance with good ideas to solve issues. ALL voting districts should be compact and drawn using existing county and school district boundaries. Intentional dilution of urban, rural, and racial groups belies a representative form of government where OUR representatives are meant to represent the concerns of the local populous. Bisecting utility districts, school districts, county departments of transportation with multiple representatives reduces the chance of local concerns having a focused voice and champion. Reduce party power and increase voter representation by ending gerrymandering, getting hidden big money out of politics, using open primaries and rank choice voting.

Only saying this because it negatively affects HIM. Not exactly a principled stand, buddy, but nice try.
