There’s a special room in hell for fun-looking mobile game ads that are nothing like the actual game

For those who liked the look of kingshot, it is actually a ripoff from a really fun game named thronefall. Highly recommend it.

The animators/developers for these ads never get interviewed for those and it would be cool to see how they think about their own misfortunes

i'm enthusiastic about those polar bears, the intersecting ones

Grdenscapes was one of if not the first to do this crap. It was the first one I saw at least, then all the other apps followed. Most ads were tolerable but now I feel like im in some kind of psychological experiment half the time.

There’s a series of games called "YEAH! YOU WANT "THOSE GAMES," RIGHT? SO HERE YOU GO! NOW, LET'S SEE YOU CLEAR THEM!" or just Those Games for short, that are literally THOSE mobile game ads made real

@justoverit

I play this ad everytime it comes up until it makes me stop lol

I’m pretty sure the same company owns Last War too. I used to play that one. The micro-transactions are insane. Also they gave me a free gift for visiting their subreddit and the first post was someone talking about how they were losing their house because they spent $90,000 in game. These games are very predatory to adults with gambling or social issues

@FreakishFiend

I would unironically play the "demo game" they advertise if it were real

God, I hate those ads. I genuinely dont understand how thats a strategy that works

YouTube playable has a lot of the games you actually see in the ads. They still aren’t great since it seems once you get far enough in some of them it stops being able to load them (at least on iPhone) but it’s interesting to try some of them out for a little bit.

I used to get this ad all the time. Fun thing is, it's a cute mindless minigame I would play almost every time it would pop up. Great substitute for the crappy game it's promoting

It’s all part of the great filter Will. If things as trivial as “false advertising” or “gameplay” are going to bother you then you’re unwanted by the devs. Your job is to plow tens of thousands of dollars into one of six in-game currencies, that is the game.

Always weird when it's a game you've played before and found fine. This ice world game was fine. It got slow at higher levels, and I stopped playing eventually. Then I started getting these bizarre ads that were for a completely different game to the one I played. It's Envoy's influence, reaching through the ages

Your life is flashing before your eyes at the pearly gates and you have to sit there rewatching all these ads a second time. And after a while St. Peter is all like "bruv, you know you can adblock that noise? On desktop and mobile.".

@sawkman2092

At least the near pornographic hero wars ones haven't been seen for a while. I genuinely questioned by sanity with those.

@ShinxyMuro

I remember seeing so many Frostpunk look alikes at one point. It was jarring.

Dang its almost as if they could get more microtransactions if they actually made a game that is represented in their trailers. Better for our wallets I suppose

@Y2Kierka

For a second i thought "There's a place in hell that is shaped liked those shitty 'eat smaller fish become bigger fish' game ads"
