Our sixth BANNED BOOK WEEK book: H.G. Wells's books were banned by the Nazis in 1933 because of his socialist views and opposition to Nazi ideology, which deemed them "un-German". His non-fiction works, such as The Outline of History, were specifically targeted for their criticism of Nazism and support for social justice, leading to their public burning alongside other works considered undesirable by the Nazi regime.
Authoritarian governments will always try to censor the media in all its varied forms in order to reshape their perceived image. We have seen this over thousands of years of human history, and are seeing it to this very day.
This is why censorship of art is always a societal negative, and must be met with fierce opposition.
Give them an inch and they'll take your freedom.
