Baggage Claim

Sorry for being MIA!

Hi friends, sorry for disappearing from YouTube for such a long time. I owe you all an apology and some explanation.

To be honest, I have been growing disillusioned with the platform for sometime. It has changed quite a bit since I started making content. In the past, content used to be heavily promoted to subscribers making it possible for me to make videos about a wide range of topics. This changed in 2024, when the topic and specifically the topical nature of the topic became far more important to the content being promoted to the audience. Who the audience member is subscribed to became nearly irrelevant when it comes to recommendations. This is very similar to the TikTok model.

This meant I had to niche down my channel or start commenting on the topics of the day (which I'm not particularly good at). Overall, I just became really burnt out, and decided to take a break.

In my time away I have, however, been working on a project that I'm really excited about. I will share more details closer to a release date, but, in the meantime, know that I am well, and I will definitely be back on YouTube (though I'm not sure what future content will look like).

I appreciate the people who reached out to me via Twitter, email, and even asked YouTube to check on me. Though it was alarming to get an "Are you okay?" note from YT, I am grateful for the care, and I realized I was so silly not to tell you what was going on behind the scenes. Just know that I appreciate you all every much! ❤️

All the best,

Sincerely,
Manisha

P.S. FYI, if you want to keep up with me, I do tweet occasionally!

I dont make content but I feel burnt out on youtube as a user. The service and over all quality of the website is just in permanent decline. So much so that I recently took a break which was great, but I still want to watch some of the creators I like. Im glad to see that you are doing well though, dont force yourself into making things that you dont like making or want to make because that only hurts your channel and content in the long run any way so theres really no benefit.

It’s genuinely good to see you taking a well-earned break—you’ve given so much of yourself, and it shows. That said, I have to admit: your insights have been a compass for me. They help me articulate why I choose to go against the grain, and I know I’m not alone. If YouTube no longer feels like the right platform, I hope you’ll consider another space to share your thoughts. Substack, for instance, has become a rich source of inspiration for me—it’s intimate, thoughtful, and built for the kind of depth you offer. Thank you for everything you’ve shared. You’re a genuine inspiration, and your clarity helps keep our community sane haha. We’re grateful—and cheering you on, wherever you go next. God bless!

I know it's not good for algorithms/viewer retention/whatever, but I appreciate the classic youtube approach, where people aren't a slave to certain schedules or topics, and just make a video about whatever interests them whenever they feel like it.

Glad to hear you’re okay. Your experience resonates. It’s frustrating and exhausting to comment on the current thing just to play into the algorithm. Looking forward to hear more about your next project. All the best!

Really glad to see your post. I was one of those X messages asking if you were ok. Really love everything you post and often share them with my wife and young adult children. Always thoughtful. Always worth the listen

I use "feedly" to watch my channels when they upload. It's an app for following new blogs but you can also use it to follow YouTube channels. You're right about how the site itself affects the way things feel. I feel closer to the channels i follow doing it this way.
