R.I.P to Garry Rogers, the Owner of His Team, GRM. (Garry Rogers Motorsports)

The Supercars Hall of Famer passed away overnight. He was 80.

A racer himself, Rogers was involved in the motorsport industry for over 60 years. Notably, he ran his eponymous team, which competed in Supercars between 1996 and 2019.

Garry Rogers Motorsport's greatest day came in the 2000 Bathurst 1000, when Garth Tander and Jason Bargwanna claimed a stunning victory in trying conditions.

Rogers raced Sports Sedans in the 1960s and 1970s before moving into touring cars, and made 14 Bathurst starts as a driver between 1978 and 1993.

He was also notable for giving many young guns a start, with the likes of Tander, Jamie Whincup, and Scott McLaughlin all going on to become Supercars champions after debuting with GRM. Tander and McLaughlin led a series of tributes, hailing a "titan" of the industry.

Supercars will honour Rogers at this weekend’s Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 with a moment's silence before Saturday’s 250km race. Teams are also set to run tribute stickers on their cars.
