I like both styles and prefer that you pick according to your style, mood, and availability of resources. I can imagine one style being easier or more effective than the other depending on the equipment or workflow being demonstrated.

There are a lot of times I actually listen to videos while walking and only pull my phone out if I really want to see what is happening on screen so when creators work through a tutorial or idea while narrating I really appreciate and enjoy it.

Excited for more "from scratch"! That's where most of us start: a blank canvas, and it's great to see how your process for finding ideas and putting them together goes. Helps with learning! Your narration is smart and helpful, so I prefer that one, especially if you keep it spare enough that the sounds of the music can fill in the gaps so we can get the enjoyable sensation of hearing it and creating it too. It would be nice to see different lineups of tools in each, too, since we all have different kits. That would help us learn the generalizable concepts rather than just per-machine tricks.

I often watch YouTube while multitasking, so I prefer voiceover! Also, I find a lot of value in patch from scratch videos as experiencing someone’s creative process in real time is super fascinating and gives me new perspectives and ideas I can integrate into my own workflow. For example, lightbath has a vid or two doing this and I often come back to them!

You are so good at these. I don’t think I would have gotten anywhere with the M8 without your video. I would just suggest going from the perspective of teaching total newborns because sometimes things that seem obvious are not, even to ppl who have a lot of experience. Looking forward to it, especially more modular stuff! I always love what you create.

What’s nice about voice is that if you have to look away you aren’t missing something. I might be multitasking while watching at times (dad life)

Your live techno set breakdown was one of my fave of your videos this year, so either style works but I prefer talking!

Whichever you think fits the video the best. I love your most recent OP-1 videos with big visuals that compliment nicely with what you’re doing or just little tidbits of the rabbit hole your mind wondered into. I also really enjoy videos with the Hydrasynth where you build a patch and talk about each detail.

Came across your channel during Covid, got introduced to the OP-1 world, got one myself. Music is on the hobby side of things, played guitar for a long time and always enjoy learning. Love getting inspired by talented people like you which brings so much joy and happiness to my existence!

Either is just fine by me. Also I love when you just talk about life stuff right in the middle. Feels like writing and mixing with a buddy.

I find the low level voiceover helps because a lot of the time it’s hard to see what buttons, dials, or options are being adjusted.

Videos while you talk over what you’re doing is something I can put on and learn from while doing chores, driving, etc.

I enjoy from scratch videos a lot. I prefer hearing commentary that way I don’t miss much if I’m not looking at the screen the entire time.

No preference between, but just adding my support for more from scratch vids. Love your syntakt chill jams

In your case it would feel less than it could have been without your voice and personality all over it. I may have shown up for the gear at one point, but long ago I realized that I'd religiously follow your channel if you just wanted to talk about your dog or making yodeling sounds. Keep at, Jeremy.

Red Means Recording
I'm planning on focusing content next year on "from scratch" videos, either beats / songs from scratch or patching / sound design from scratch.
I'm on the fence about whether people prefer videos with only text or one where voice is part of it, so here's a poll.
