My Minisforum MS-R1 Review is now live, and I have rarely been so confused by a device! As the tech industry to trying to make efficiency gains left, right and centre, I can definitely see an audience of developers and software engineers that would use this device to stay on the ball and keep their ops supported! But when you make comparisons between the MS-R1 and the likes of the MS-01, MS-A2 and more - the lines get suuuuuuuuuuuuuper blurry in terms of what this vs an x86 system could do. So, in the MS-R1, I have to ask - is this the future of Mini PCs? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86hbl...

Beyond the homelabbing/server use case.I think with Valve making headways into ARM, this would definitely bring in more users to ARM space once x86 emulation matures. I would love to see gaming on ARM take off beyond what the mobile landscape offers. Better GPU support would make it even more enticing.

There are ARM chips that will run circles around almost any Intel or compatible chip, and do so at much, much lower TDP. Nd there’s plenty of support for ARM-based systems running various flavors of Linux, FreeBSD, etc…. So, for anyone who wants to be Intel-free, and still have a low cost computer that they could have in their entertainment system or as a small server in the closet, I think this would work well. For my part, I’d prefer a Mac Mini 4 over this. Yes, I will pay extra money for the hardware in order to run the OS I prefer.
