I knew that it wasn't William Henry Harrison. His very long inaugural address resulted in the shortest presidency.

Fellow Citizens: I am again called upon by the voice of my country to execute the functions of its Chief Magistrate. When the occasion proper for it shall arrive, I shall endeavor to express the high sense I entertain of this distinguished honor, and of the confidence which has been reposed in me by the people of united America. Previous to the execution of any official act of the President the Constitution requires an oath of office. This oath I am now about to take, and in your presence: That if it shall be found during my administration of the Government I have in any instance violated willingly or knowingly the injunctions thereof, I may (besides incurring constitutional punishment) be subject to the upbraidings of all who are now witnesses of the present solemn ceremony.

I get the feeling George Washington really, REALLY didn't like politicians and hated that he had become one, and that distaste for his position was a major reason why he didn't seek a third term. He tolerated the bureaucrats and politicians during the war and after because they were necessary, but he did NOT like the system of politics for the most part.

I didn't even know, but the moment I saw Washington, I knew I had to be my man.

I had a feeling I knew what it was, given his character. Glad I still remember my US History after all of these years.

They should all be that short. You had the entire campaign to tells us your plans, goals etc. Say thank you and get to work.

I remember learning this. It was because he was embarrassed by his teeth.

George ended his speech with: Tonight we’re gonna party like it’s 1799! (it was 1793)
