Engineering in Action! TKA Junior Preston Kakuk designed and 3D-modeled a protective cover for TKA’s emergency call buttons, which are located throughout campus. These emergency buttons can be bumped accidentally, leading to false alarms. Preston’s concept originated as part of his application for the DiMino Engineering & Technology Scholarship, where he was asked to propose a design solution to a real-world problem.

Recognizing the potential of Preston’s idea, Mr. Davis, Director of the DiMino Engineering & Technology Program, submitted it to the King’s Corner Coffee Grant Program for funding. The project was selected, funded, and has since been implemented across campus. TKA’s emergency call buttons are now protected by Preston’s innovative covers.

The King’s Corner Grant Program is a collaborative initiative of the Business Program of Distinction’s King’s Corner and The King’s Investment Club. Revenue generated by King’s Corner is invested in the stock market, and the returns are used to fund grants that directly support projects like Preston’s at TKA. Way to go, Preston!
