Some of you have asked if I’m going to discuss Wuk Lamat as a character for 7.0. And I’d like to.

But I also know even mentioning her is very divisive in the community right now.

What do you think? Should that be my next video?

I think she can be constructively critiqued without angering either side. Any character, no matter how well or poorly written, is going to have flaws in their lines, quests, screen time and what have you. It’s a good thing to look at these issues subjectively.

I think the criticism around Wuk Lamat is overrated. The criticism hasn't really been about her as a character, but rather how the story revolved around her. And as a personal observation, I saw Wuk Lamat being handled quite similarly to how Lyse was handled in Stormblood. Stormblood was in large part Lyse's story, much like Dawntrail was Wuk Lamat's.

The harassment of Wuk Lamat's VA is from an evil source we all know. Wuk Lamat's character is flawed and could've been performed better, this much is true but the ceaseless attacks on Sena Bryer for being a transgender VA is something that should be rejected outright. Especially when there's worse written characters this expansion imo like Zoraal Ja the sheer amount of hatred for how she performed is unlike anything I've ever seen. We can critique the character or how some lines were delivered but the harassment is a step too far.

I voted no, not cause I dislike Wuk Lamat (I actually think she's a fantastic character with a good arc that is mostly undercut by other things going on and the game leaning way harder into show-not-tell this msq but I digress) but because if you're unsure then I don't mind waiting, esp if there's other chars or beats you'd like to get into first.

Wuk Lamat I don't think will only be in this expansion. I think it would be wild to do a video now other than, "here's a character that exists," because they clearly intend to do more with her. Characters like galool Jaja might benefit more from a video since they have a clear "end"

I'm not going to vote, but I'll ask would you enjoy making it? I'd only put the effort in if you felt like you'd like to talk about the character. Otherwise, I'd go with something else. And for the record I like Wuk Lamat overall. She's a good natured person, and I have a soft spot for those, but I'll not say she's a very complex character. And I don't think she needs to be.

I am only voting no because i dont want your comment section filled with garbage, of course i would love your perspective on it but some of this community's approach to this character makes me question humanity

Personally I love Wuk Lamat as a character, shes loud boisterous, quirky and flawed. Her being seen as the weakest of the claiments and having complex about herself was endearing to me at least and she did learn not to trust people throughout the story though it didnt appear to be. The drive to understand and learn from others is actually a nice touch because the position she taking on and following her fathers footstep which gives us insight how respected he was, but Wuk needs to find her way. Which may be explored in 7.1 to 7.3. I know there's alot of controversy surrounding her, but i tune it out because while its okay to criticize, i think its unnecessary from both sides for all the drama

I watch your videos because I value your perspective and knowledge on all things FFXIV. If you have something to say about pretty much any characters or plotlines in the game, I’m interested. Even when I disagree, I find the content thought-provoking and well done.

I’m a huge critic of her writing on my own channel. But don’t let divisiveness stop you. Like her or hate her, share your thoughts. It’ll open some discussions if nothing else.

She's a new head of state given an expansion to become her own person, she's definitely got a lot to be talked about. Personally I like her but I feel like some parts don't have us and our person, like previous expansions with the scions, for us to get invested in some moments and then in other moments we are there for everyone and it feels quite heavy. It's okay that the emotional weight is carried by wuk lamat sometimes bc that's something that's been a clear problem for the wol since shadowbringers. We have so many people putting their all on our shoulders and Alisaie especially knows it, so when it is happening to wuk lamat we share that burden between us. It makes sense to me.

I'm guessing she's going to have some more growth through 7.1-7.3; I'd hold off for now (same with Gulool Ja Ja, with some flashbacks, but that might just be wishful thinking). I would love to hear your thoughts on Cahciua, particularly the surprising amount of parallels to Hythlodaeus (particularly his shade in Shadowbringers).

Ignore the evil bigots. Wuk is a fantastic character and i want to see her in a video

My issue with Wuk Lamat is a lack of character development. Yes, she learned more about her people, yes she gained more self-confidence, but overall she felt so static and flat. That's compared to even Koana - who we had way less time with but, to me, still felt way more real and developed as a character. Still, I am interested to hear your perspective! (Even if it means waiting longer for Elidibus!)

I want to see a video on the topic for sure. The only flaws I personally felt were some of the writing and the VA unfortunately not being able to push as hard as they needed to when it was really called for. Most of it felt fine to great, but some things just didn’t work out too well. Hope to see what you think.

It feels like no amount of time spent on a video would do justice just to show how much of a miss Wuk Lamat is. There's too much to cover.

@jameysotelo540

At the end of the day, i dont think it really matters on whether the video might be divisive, there are going to be people who either like her or hate her. Its mainly to me at that point do you think you could enjoy making this video at the moment? If anything could wait a little bit since maybe post msq might flesh her out a bit better but it mainly just comes down to whether or not you could see yourself making a quality video right now or not.

Well, you'll probably get a lot of views... For better or worst. Personally, I think that bee hive has been kicked enough.

I have no problem with her VA. But I think the character is poorly written. She has no major development, her scenes are very flat, it's not clear to me why she seeks the throne of a kingdom she obviously doesn't know. And also, it was really tiring to have to be speaking with her all the time and teaming up with her. I hope the writers do something about her.

@Kodiie

I find the toxicity around the toxicity far more toxic, if that makes sense. The amount of people being crappy are pretty small in the grand scheme of it (not to excuse there behavior). Yet legit criticism of Wok Lamat has been lumped in with the toxic behavior. It’s unfortunate because without actual criticism the creators will never know where to take the character to make audience happier and as a result the situation well not improve.
