Modern cars make a lot of power, but how much is too much? 🤔

@sundeepubhi

350hp and 1200 kg kerb weight is a sweet spot IMHO.

Rimac is making some very deadly cars that I won't even think of driving.

You would be able to drive 400bhp+ cars more on the limit on racetracks, but on the road something small like a Fiesta/Fiesta ST would be plenty quick enough.

@gollytosky5608

Anything over 300bhp is overkill on the roads

@mattboyd7385

Tbh 3-400hp is a lot. You feel that. Anything reaching 60-mph in less than 5.5 seconds feels fast.

@Rhowhat

Above 350-400 bhp is just an apology for weight and a sign that consumables are going to cost the earth.

@fubudan

Bmw m135/m140 rwd is perfect enough

@saskwotch19764

Anything over 8,000bhp is excessive unless in Germany.

@serenelight2294

400-600 is sweet spot for track use

@clutched77

UK you don’t need more than 400hp In Europe 500hp is playable

@augustortiz

Honestly I think 350whp is the sweet spot.

@1971joseramirez

8.75lbs/HP or 4 Kg/ HP for the street

@christianb.4385

Beyond 400 hp for 1500 kg is probably too much for road use ..

@iconvlogs2110

400bhp is the sweet spot.

@pigeonpoo1823

Given the performance figures of the Golf R, whatever it's power-to-weight ratio is (2hp/kg) is probably about enough for most. But we always want more, don't we..........

The most fun I ever had in cars was with fizzy little hot hatches that didn’t really have much straight line performance. I’ve driven 911s, V8 BMW M3s, and they are very impressive, but you’re into license-losing territory so quickly, what’s the point? Whatever the VW Golf mk5 GTi’s power-to-weight is, that’s fast enough for the road in my opinion. 160hp per tonne?

@lassebauer

Anything more than 1,500 BHP is slightly dangerous

@DashCamSerbia

For a street car, if you can't use 100% of the engine power, then what is the point?

@umah.

I'd rather drive a lightweight 500 Horsepower car than a 2-ton car with over 1000 horsepower.

City cars and superminis are fine with 1 litre 100hp engines if we’re honest. Heavier family cars and SUVs might need a bit more but even then a 2 litre diesel tops. Electrification is already adding plenty of torque where necessary. Call me boring, but considering the price of insurance and frequency of collisions as a result of driving recklessly, I don’t think we should be prioritising fun when the toys weigh well over a tonne and go over 100mph as it is.
