This old birch tree had to be removed after being infected by a fungus called birch polypore (Fomitopsis betulina). The decay didn’t make the tree hollow, but it caused serious internal rot and weakened the core of the trunk over many years. A reminder that even strong trees can silently break down from the inside. 🍃🌳
