Doctor Youn

We all know Botox can be used to treat our facial wrinkles, like crow's feet, frown lines, and forehead wrinkles. But I bet you didn't know these three secret applications of Botox that can be super effective!

1. Turn a Frown Upside Down - If Botox is injected in a tiny amount under each corner of the mouth, it can reverse a permafrown. This works by weakening the depressor anguli oris muscle which pulls the corners of the mouth downward. When 2-3 units of Botox are injected into it, the muscles relax, and the corners lift up!

2. Flip Your Lip - When a couple units of Botox are injected into the upper lip it can cause the lip to "flip" outward, making it look subtly fuller. Check out the photo of my administrative assistant Megan before and after her Lip Flip. Our expert injectors do this treatment all the time.

3. Nefertiti Lift - This is the name given to a subtle lift you can get when Botox is injected into the platysmal bands of the neck and just below the jawline. These injections relax the neck muscles which pull downward, resulting in an uplifting of the lower face and neckline. Note: it's very subtle and can prevent you from making certain extreme facial expressions.

Interested in learning more surprising uses of Botox? There is a LOT more that Botox can do, and some Botox treatments being done that really shouldn't be (Scrotox?!?!). I cover all of this on my latest podcast, including:
- Botox to treat a gummy smile
- Traptox (aka Barbie Botox)
- Botox for excessive sweating
- Botox injections "down there"
- And a lot more!

I honestly prefer the softer look of the first photo. The second one (the ight) makes her face look rubbery and “piggy” 🥺🥺

Wow amazing!! Thank you, my upper lip is a huge problem with lots of horizontal lines! I am 55 and overall have a very youthful appearance, just turkey neck and my upper lip. This news has helped me alot! Thanks dr Young, I just love you!!

You can also use Botox for TMJ problems. Relaxes the muscles of mastication

I've been told it can be used to treat people with my vocal cord dysfunction. Either Botox to stop the spasming or some kind of filler in one side to stabilize it. When your vocal folds are reactive, they spasm from a variety of triggers (like for asthma) and it's hard to pull air in.

@vivianworden

Doesn't Botox further weaken the muscles which makes this problem worse?

Each to their own but I think botox does not look good. Embrace aging gracefully, it happens to us all.

I’ve been getting the lip flip for years and I love it. Botox is also great for rbf. I would love to hear your opinion on lip lifts.

I’ve never had Botox for cosmetic purposes, though I’m not against it. I’ve had it for migraine treatment. It was the only thing that actually helped. I mostly got migraines during my monthly visit from Aunt Flo. And they’d last as long as she stayed. I was prescribed every medication you can think of. Even the injectable ones. Botox still did the best. Thankfully I had a hysterectomy last year. Since then I’ve had one or two migraines. They might last half the day but it’s better than a week and a half.

I've never seen a lip filler that doesn't look like lip filler. It'd amazing how hard it is to duplicate nature.

I love the shape of her top lip! That little plump part in the middle is so cute. I'll be 43 this summer and I definitely see the lower half of my face aging quickly!! My mouth is starting to look like Jeff Dunham's Walter, or Beaker from the Muppets if I'm not paying attention! 😂

I wasnt happy with botox. It’s good only for 3 months. Kept me from habitual frowning but the lines never disappeared. That needed fillers. Good for 3 months also. But by the 2nd month your face is on the way to reverting back to the way it used to be as the body starts to absorb the fillers. So I’d say the effect of botox is good only for a month.

It can also be used to treat spasticity in other muscles after brain injury.

Hi Dr Youn, I got Botox for the first time last week, mainly to help get my excessively oily skin on and around my nose under control, therefore, improving my acne and secondly to get rid of my embarrassing gummy lip. My Botox was Dysport 80 units…. My skin is still as oily as ever but wow, it’s impressive, the difference, huge improvement for the gummy smile!!!!!

I don't know how they do it. I get Botox for migraines and screaming in pain. Especially since fibromyalgia has me not being able to tolerate pain. But,

Can you discuss non injectable options for RBF? Are there ways to help relax the eyebrows and glabella?
