Do you believe a debt collector can have you arrested over an old debt?

Directly, no. Indirectly, yes. You won't get arrested for the debt, but you can get arrested for failing or refusing to comply with a court order 🤔

Thanks for everyone participating the results were No's - 89% and Yes's 11%; Here are the Fact's - you CANNOT technically be arrested for owing a debt. That is 100% not legal in the United States. BUT here's the way it has been happening in our Great Country...if you get a judgment against you and you are summons to court to and you fail to "comply". Not to comply to pay the debt, just to state that you can or cannot pay the debt. Basically because communications with the debt collector (no original creditor will ever do this) did not happen. So they can put a Contempt order to have a person arrest to come to court to answer on the debt that is owed in a "Judgment" not just a demand for payment letter I want to be clear. If you get to speak to a judge right away you'll be in and out. If you can't you will be put in jail until you can speak to a judge. So image this you are at a park and you get a parking ticket because the meter ran out. You go back to your car and you get arrested not because the meter ran out because there is an arrest warrant to bring you into court for contempt. This is a interruption in your life that you want to avoid. If you have a judgment against you and the collector is trying to communicate you need to communicate by mail or phone even if you cannot afford to pay it. The contempt order is basically just over non-communication. thanks Steven.

This is a bit smelly Like some hand in the assist to catch em later. Of course we have always had the auto theft. But now everyone got the computers. Those aren't cheap, black market will still run 3-5 racks on a used older model. The one in dudes hand doesn't look like a used model.
