CAR FREE UPDATE: Welp… I basically experienced death by a thousand fare payments last month. I spent $184.05 on bus tickets! I thought about buying a pass, but decided to stick with the tickets just to see. I saw.

I overspent by $72.05. Still saving money over a car… but I’m going with a monthly transit pass this month for $112. I’ll be curious to see if I take the bus more this month because it’s a sunk cost now. Stay tuned!

Calgary Transit's slowly building those frequencies and establishing a frequent service network. Thanks for your contribution to the system!

I have been appreciating our new fare capping system. If I travel enough, I pay for a pass, if I don't, I pay for the rides. No need to decide in advance.

Nice! I find that minimizing the marginal cost of each trip really helps me be more active, so I’ll gladly pay for a pass, even if I don’t always use it enough to make it pay for itself. Usually I do though! But it’s easier for me to justify a plan across the city when I know that the transit is free on the margin.

I’ve set up auto reload in my arc so $40 gets loaded each time my balance drops to $10. With fare capping and auto load, I don’t have to worry about fares at all.

They don’t have fare capping? Is there an official app? In Dallas if I pay through the app the max I can pay a month is a monthly pass.
