The iPhone (and thus smartphone) can be traced directly back to the Walkman. The Walkman gave way to the disc man, which was replaced by the IPod, then comes iPhones.

Walkman led to CD Man led to portable digital music storage combine with PDAs led to cell phones led to smart phones led to everyone everywhere having instant access to information and entertainment. Microwave ovens are great but their impact was limited
