In his paintings, Xu Lei is accustomed to interweaving real elements with fictional scenes. He meticulously carves objects with delicate and realistic brushstrokes, yet places them in spaces filled with a fantastical atmosphere, creating a unique ambience that is both real and illusory, and where the virtual and the actual coexist. It's as if he is narrating stories that occur deep within dreams from the perspective of the protagonist, guiding viewers into a poetic and mysterious otherworld.
Xu Lei enhances the contrast between the real and the illusory in his works through the exquisite manipulation of light and shadow, endowing his paintings with a distinctive visual tension. In some of his works, he illuminates the subject with soft and focused light, while the surrounding environment is shrouded in hazy shadows, making the subject seem to emerge slowly from the boundless darkness or presenting a half-hidden, half-revealed state of wonder. This sense of proximity and distance greatly adds to the mystery of the story and stirs the viewer's curiosity and desire to explore.
In the narrative system Xu Lei constructs, he often employs the technique of using objects to represent people, skillfully replacing characters. Through the superimposition and integration of different visual elements, as well as the subtle differences in the real and illusory aspects of the foreground, background, and middle ground, and the contrast between the mirror image in water and reality, he meticulously arranges and performs the allegorical stories in his mind, creating a unique and dramatic multi-dimensional space in his paintings. Each work is like a silent yet tense drama. Furthermore, Xu Lei is adept at juxtaposing images and mirror images in his paintings. This unique form of expression symbolizes his deep self-examination and reflection, as well as his precise capture and eternal fixation of moments.
In his paintings, time seems to stand still, and the postures of the scenes are perfectly frozen. This unique interpretation of time easily evokes deep feelings about the passage of time and nostalgia for the past in the viewer's heart, allowing them to engage in a dialogue with their inner selves while appreciating the works. To attend the opening of Xu Lei's solo exhibition at the Shenzhen Art Museum this time, I was deeply touched. I specially selected several photos from our first visit to Prague twenty years ago as a memento.

徐累，是一個懂影像會講故事能畫畫的人
徐累在他的畫中慣於將現實元素與虛構場景相互交織，以細膩寫實的筆觸雕琢物體，卻又將它們安置於充滿奇幻色彩的空間之中，營造出一種亦真亦幻、虛實相生的獨特氛圍，好像以主人翁的視角，敘述著那些在夢境深處發生的故事，引領觀者踏入一個充滿詩意與神秘的異度世界。
徐累通過對光線與陰影的精妙調配，強化畫面的虛實對比，賦予作品獨特的視覺張力。在部分作品裏，他以柔和且聚焦的光線照亮主體，而周圍環境則隱匿於朦朧的陰影之中，使得主體仿佛從無盡虛暗中緩緩浮現，又或是呈現出半隱半現的奇妙狀態，這種若即若離的視覺效果，極大地增添了故事的神秘感，激發觀者的好奇心與探索欲。

在他的畫裏，時間仿佛就此靜止，景物的姿態被完美定格，這種對時間的獨特詮釋，極易引發觀眾內心深處對時間流逝的感慨，以及對過去時光的深深追憶，使觀者在欣賞畫作的同時，也展開一場與自我內心的對話。這次來深圳參加「深圳美術館」徐累個展開幕，感觸頗深，特意選出幾張我們二十年前第一次去布拉格的照片以示紀念。
