So there I was just retired and having made that faithful decision to take up photography after being away since shooting film in the 70’s and 80’. I had just relocated to Florida and was not sure where to go to get up to speed on the new digital cameras. My son suggested YouTube and so down the rabbit hole I went. I had tried a new mirrorless camera and found the endless menus too much like work. And quite by chance the algorithm suggested this channel talking about early digital cameras with one of the first ones I watched talking about CCD sensors and how film like they were. This was music to my ears and eyes. I started with a Pentax D10 followed by Canon 40D and then the Olympus Pen E-P3 in quick succession. I now have added a Sony A100, three Nikons and a bunch of point and shoots. I do not regret buying any of them and use them all. I still follow along with the growth of the family and the move from Texas to Iowa. So Congratulations on hitting 100,000 and on to one Millllionnn subscribers. 🎉🎉

Honestly, your channel has been a big reason why I've been going down a similar path. I was always obsessed with the latest and greatest gear, but now I'm having much more fun slowing down, shooting with cameras that I find interesting and enjoy the shooting process much more. I'm having the time of my life. And I owe that in part to you. Thank you, and thank you for all the wonderful content. Snappiness videos are often the highlight of my day.

Hi James, just wanted to thank you for creating one of the most friendly and less toxic spaces on the photography side of YouTube. I love how you are not chasing the latest and greatest, but instead you are focusing on photography as a beautiful, calming experience. Love from Milan!

Your channel has made me realise I'm not the only one collecting "obsolete" gear and having fun with it. I love what you do.

Congratulations on your milestone. The last time that I bought the latest and greatest camera was when I bought my old Canon EOS 300D. That was back in 2004. Now I am running 2 Canons. The fist is an EOS 1100D and the second is the EOS 550D. Bought 6 months apart for $100 AUD each. The lenses I have are the EF50mm 1.8, EFS 18-55mm 1.4-5.6, EFS 55-250mm 4-5.6 and the Tamron 100-300mm 4-5.6 Tele-Macro. All 4 lenses cost me less than $500 AUD. Am I happy with this kit. You bet your butt I am. I do have to say one thing. If film was plentiful, I would also be running one of my vintage/classic cameras, both medium format and 35mm. I love the old stuff.

The thing I like about your channel is that you love gear as much as photography. Owning and collecting gear is a hobby in itself and I don’t think anyone should feel ashamed of owning cameras and glass (new and old) just because they like how they look, function, or perform. You’ve shown that loving your gear isn’t just about having the best and latest but using something that makes you happy and creative.

No dumb videos, all great content, 99% in focus, the kindest YT-photog-environment, and the best pool to dive in if you love cameras of yesteryear. Which I do. I hope you’ll never get the urge to be contemporary, and that it’s at least 10 years before Snappiness reviews the new O-M5 ii which at that point it’s probably a cult camera. Stay retro! Thanks!

Snapppypic with 3 P's! You changed it because probably the 3 P's was hard to search because I remember searching for snappypic with 2 P's and nothing showed up! Had a slight shock until I realised the 3 P's. :) Edit: Thanks, James for sharing your experiences here!

I can appreciate new gear, but I can really appreciate learning about things that I did not know. I love learning about equipment people may not love anymore.

Thanks to your videos I learned to appreciate what I had and approach it with a kind of curiosity that makes you want to experiment and explore. Gained a love for Pentax cameras (I love my K5 and Limiteds) and learned to take my time to develop a feel for that strange thing of making pictures with a handheld computer, glass, and light.

Congrats James! Almost 100,000 subs! I thought the first video of yours I watched was you making a grip for a Pentax film camera out of colored pencils… but I don’t see it in your videos, so maybe I am misremembering. Either way, I have enjoyed watching your journey!

It was your videos about Pentax gear that brought me here! BTW: I think the K10D files are the most magical of all my DSLRs (K5, D200, D600, E-500). Way underrated cams. CCD specialness is real!?!

snappiness
6 years ago I posted a video about buying and using an old DSLR. I was tired of all the rushing after the latest and greatest gear and just wanted to have fun with photography.
6 years and 251 videos later we are a day or two away from 100,000 subscribers! I wanted to thank you all for hanging out, introducing yourselves, showing me your photos, talking cameras, and watching my dumb videos all along the way - it's been awesome seeing how many other people love photography like I do. It's a great hobby. And it doesn't have to be expensive.
I have almost learned how to keep my video in focus and edit. Still getting the hang of it 🤣 let this be a lesson to not worry about perfection and just share what you love.
Trivia time - what was my original channel name and why did I change it? 🤔
Happy snappin',
-james
