It’s a simple state of 5 being the 5th game whereas 3 was only the 3rd. P5R especially just has more complete content, has improved over issues in the past games, and solved the problem the other games had of not including Goro Akechi. In all seriousness, Persona 3 has the problems of repetitive shadow grinding across Tartarus, no social links for team members if you can’t romance, and only 3 social stats that end up finished long before the game’s end, leaving nothing to do on days without social links. Persona 5 fixed all of those. The enemies are the personas so they don’t just repeat, and there are the unique palaces in addition to Mementos. The teammates are more substantial because they are introduced before joining the team (as opposed to “someone else is now fighting with us, now say hello and put them on the party if they’re good”), and everyone gets a social link. The social stats are increased from 3 that go to level 6 to 5 that go to level 5, creating variation in what stats are needed for things and giving you longer before everything is maxed out. Altogether it’s a better experience.

As much as I love p3 and p3 is my favorite, persona 5 was better made with better plot, and it also has akechi....
