It's been a while since I last posted here, so it's time to share a few words and thoughts if you'll indulge me:
- I hope everyone's enjoying the latest Genesis/Megadrive playlists. Let me be honest here, I loved making them. I'm not sure why I put off working on a GEN/MD playlist for so long, and I'm not sure why I don't go back to GEN games as much as I do with SNES games. Alright, story time: I'm a Nintendo boy. My first system was the Gameboy (more on that later), then I had the NES and then the SNES. Never had any interest for Sega games... until a distant cousin visited us and gifted me a Megadrive with like 15 games: Space Harrier 2, Ghouls'n Ghosts, Herzog Zwei, Columns, Shinobi, Jordan vs. Bird (remember this game?) etc. My parents still figure he'd stolen it from someone but I couldn't care less. Imagine how I felt with so many games to play all of a sudden... So yeah, I love the Megadrive and perhaps because I don't really play those games anymore making this playlist was an intense nostalgia trip. It did take a looong time to compile though. There was close to a thousand soundtracks to sort through and I'll admit I wasn't always diligent (I played Yakuza Kenzan and Last of Us 2 while working on this playlist and clearly it didn't help). Anyway, here they are now: 2 Genesis/Megadrive playlist and a Sega CD one on top of that!
- The next "big" relaxing playlist will probably take a while to finish as well... so I'll make a bunch of shorter playlists in between to keep this channel alive a bit. First is an Amanita Design one. It probably comes from nowhere for some of you, it's not exactly retro but PLEASE give it a listen. You see, I absolutely LOVE this studio. They make these short point & click games that could easily be dismissed as quirky, childish or just plain weird. The truth is, these game are simply beautiful. They just ooze soul and atmosphere. The graphics are gorgeous and playing them feels like reading an illustrated book. Reading back on what I'm writing I realize I'm not doing them justice here: you must try them for yourself. Machinarium or Samorost 3 have my vote for newcomers. Suffice to say they made me fall in love with video games at a time when I was VERY disillusioned with the medium. And the soundtracks are still on my regular rotation. They're that good. If you enjoy Ninja Tune stuff (DJ Food, Amon Tobin, Bonobo, Skalpel...) Floex & Hidden Orchestra will be right up your alley. And DVA...well they're DVA, and I love their weird music! This playlist is one of my favourite yet. I realize it won't generate as many views as the others and half of these will be mine anyway, but that's precisely the point of this channel: not publishing playlists I WOULD listen to but the ones I ACTUALLY listen to. So far it seems to be working fairly well! Which brings me to the last point:
- Someone said I should make a GB playlist. And boy would I love making one... but it wouldn't be a relaxing playlist, that's not exactly the GB vibe. I've been toying with the idea of making "best of" compilations, the ones called "the sounds of..." are basically me testing the idea with my favourite game series. But, how about making some for whole systems? The best of SNES music, NES music, PS1 etc. I realize these playlists would perhaps feel more impersonal because, well, they are compilations of everyone's favourite music and they are already dozens of those, but what if I dig really deep once again and mix the classics along with underrated or unknown stuff? Would you listen to it? There's enough work for me for the next 5 years or so here... What do you think?
Enough of me rambling on. Thank you for your support once again! Thank you a thousand times for the comments, the subs, everything. And for you beautiful people supporting me on Patreon there are exclusive playlists coming your way. A "Relaxing Chrono Music" has already been gifted to some of you, in addition to the existing Final Fantasy and Mana/Seiken Densetsu ones. Enjoy!
