Dutch is definitely very well written, it’s so tragic how the modern world is coming and he just kept making mistake after mistake after mistake and not listening to anyone who genuinely is trying to help him. He took Arthur in when he had no where else to go and he stood by his side for 20 years, but he’d rather listen to Micah (who he only knew for 6 months) because he kept feeding is ego, he became the man that he told Arthur never to be, all because he was super desperate and turned crazy when all his “plans” kept failing. Not because they’re stupid, but because he felt like the people who were close to him were turning on him everytime they questioned his ideas

I liked Milton as an antagonist and character because he was a very articulate character. He also gives the gang an opportunity to disband making it clear he was only after Dutch from the start and clarified to Cornwall that he operates within the law. His voice actor also did a great job.

The fact i had to lose faith in Dutch overtime says alot to the story I trusted him and many chapters later its waning because of what hes done recently, at least I could follow him but not did not have much trust in him after strawberry

I liked investigating Micahs backstory. He is one-dimensional if you only play the main story, but if you listen to him open up during campfire talks and read his personal letters, you learn his worldview and how it was beaten into him as a kid by his psychopathic murderer father. He was taught there is no reason to have empathy, that only power matters and the powerful can do whatever they want against the weak.

Arthur glazers would still pick Arthur just cause he's Arthur.

Man Micah was the most realistic outlaw I saw in the game, he's definitely one of my favorites along with his drip

@Dagger_323

Ross is the most realistic and convincing antagonist in the series, because he represents real life corruption. Though for once I agree with this poll that the best written character of these is Dutch.

I think Dutch is one of the most well written characters in fiction. Not because he's extremely complex, but because he's realistic. Dutch is an example of what happens when you give a mere mortal the ego of a god and watch as his ego slowly withers away at his sanity. He started in rdr2 as a relatively good leader. Then he slowly descended into madness, culminating in his appearance in rdr1, where he is a shell of his former self, committing atrocities not for money, but for sport. Dutch is a perfect allegory for how egotistical people inherently lead to their own misery.

Its Easily Jason Derulo, his attempt to ruin the immersion of the listener by stating his own name at the start of the song is a Musical crime

People overshadow Ross so much by these other antagonists, to the story that is. Ross kidnapped John’s family for a long time, forced John to do their dirty work, then shot him like a dog.

Dutch is great because people still theorise and debate when he flipped

Dutch . In the first game just hearing about how much John looked up to him and all the good things he did yet hearing how he became ( or always was , maybe ) not good is fascinating once you finally get to meet him and his interactions with John and then seeing him in 2 and watching in what feels like real time him slowly descending ( or it slowly becoming more obvious who he always has been ) was truly breathtakingly heartbreakingly beautiful .

Micah is actually very well written. His camp events and that letter from his brother are very telling.

You know it's a good story when it's truly difficult to answer this question . They are all well written. We didn't wait 10 years for nothing gg Rockstar

Micah is a crafty, immoral survivalist. With Dutch though, i genuinely kept hoping he would get the gang out somehow. It's only when fighting Bronte and preparing to rob St. Denis bank, do I heavily doubt Dutch. He went from a charismatic, honorable outlaw leader to a crazy, psychotic, narcissistic villain. I genuinely love how the game never tells us if Dutch was always like this or if he did go crazy

Dutch and Micah are both well written and incredibly well acted. Dutch was always a bit unstable, but it's easy to miss early on because he's still got Hosea to keep him grounded in reality. Milton and Ross were incredibly well acted, but considering how little time we interacted with them compared to Dutch and Micah, it's hard to say whether or not they're well written.
