Ghana’s Year of Return: What’s your take?

Since 2019, Ghana has opened its doors to African Americans seeking to reconnect with their ancestral roots. Some come as tourists, others stay to build new lives. But what does this historic movement really mean for Ghana and its people? In our latest Street Debate from Accra https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fvv9H... Edith Kimani meets with returnees who have gained Ghanaian citizenship and locals navigating the changes.

Has this influx strengthened cultural ties, or created new tensions in the country? Let us know your thoughts.

All this videos shows me is that while it's good to have ties and strong connections we cannot abandon our countries as if we wouldn't face similar circumstances in Ghana or any other Africans country

The diaspora should return and bring the education, experience and wealth back to build Africa up. As the US and Europe collapse black people will be the scapegoat once again, so now is the time to invest in Africa. Yes there will be tribal tensions but remember something great can be achieved, or infighting and jealousy can ensure Africa stays under developed and exploited by imperial powers. We have a choice.

This isnt the first time ex enslaved ppl came to Ghana. The Tabom from Brazil settled in Accra and integrated into the local Ga population. This can be replicated if ppl are willing to learn

While African Americans may not have direct genetic links to East Africa, I feel that EA should do better in welcoming AAs, considering that they among other reasons, played an integral role in our struggle for independence.

Wherever people are, the above three is inevitable but the third can be minimized by this. Unfortunately I can't pick all three I will go with the second one. 😊

All of the above. Love West Africa, but East Aftica is better, tbh.
