EV is green!

During such an event, the off-gas is a highly toxic and flammable mixture that can include:
Hydrogen (highly flammable)
Carbon monoxide (colorless and odorless, can cause poisoning)
Carbon dioxide
Hydrogen fluoride (highly toxic, can cause severe burns and systemic damage)
Hydrogen chloride
Hydrogen cyanide
Sulfur dioxide
Methane
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
Heavy metals released into the air as particles in the smoke plume.
These fumes are extremely dangerous to inhale or have skin contact with and can cause serious health conditions or death. Emergency responders use specific safety protocols and monitoring equipment to detect these gases when dealing with a damaged or burning EV battery.
A separate potential source of off-gassing in older Tesla models is the smaller, non-lithium-ion 12-volt lead-acid battery (which the company has been transitioning away from in newer models). If this battery is overcharged or failing, it can release hydrogen sulfide gas, which has a strong, "rotten egg" smell and is also toxic and flammable
