The fact that they managed to have a BNPL just named "shop" always freaked me out. Nothing to add here, just commenting for the reach, can't wait to see this one!

"What if credit card but you didn't need approval?" (Which honestly how credit cards used to be issued in 2000s America, but that's importantly a problem that was later outlawed)

I use Klarna mostly because of convenience. It also seems safer in regards to not leaving credit card information on a ton of sites, and not paying until I have the product in my hand. I can pay for multiple purchases at once. Usually the day I get my salary I'll pay bills, rent and Klarna payments if I have any. I've never paid in installments or been late. Never spend money you don't have on these apps 😅

My girlfriend had an awful experience regarding Klarna. A presumably deleted account ended up as months long back and forth with their user service, debt collectors getting involved and a police report for identity theft being filed. It's all over by now and we managed it without any lawyers or large sums of money spent, but god was that a stressful few months. I've already forwarded it to her and am trying to get her to send you guys an email.

I have a face for radio so Imma skip that part. I've used PayPal about 2 dozen times on items that were out of my price range. I really had zero problems with it and appreciated being able to get those items i couldn't save for. Mind you, the only reason i couldn't save for them was because i spend like I'm rich. I'm not, but I'm single with no children and no debt. So making a few payments with no interest instead of saving was kind of amazing.

My experience is PayPal simply banned my account for no reason, just one day stopped working and I am glad - it helped me learn how to move money outside the stupid banking system.

Wouldn't be much of an interview but using pay in 4 means more money in our accounts for longer, hotels, car rentals plane tickets. A trip we were already doing with the cost offset zero interest means 1-2 extra months with that money in our home loan offset. Those dollars do add up. To afford lunch when you haven't got your paycheck yet...that's a whole different use

Absolutely terrifying. If credit rating wasnt such a big part of life, i wouldnt even have a credit card

Good luck with this one - there's been a range of videos on BNPL recently, so I'll be interested to see how yours turns out. Though.. I have to say, the names of these things are so bizarre, and I've only heard of one or two. Zip? Sezzle?? Shop???? None of these feel real.

There’s been a lot of YouTube videos about this but your videos usually delve much deeper. I hate these products they encourage enormous debt. It’s too easy.

Would be very curious how many people are like me who have been tempted, and signed up, but never ultimately used them To then end up spammed by promotional material and/or chased for other people's purchases because they have terrible record keeping and are more interested in signing people up than accurately tracking.

i fear this kind of technology because i was always taught to never put yourself in debt unless you ABSOLUTELY have to and these services are just a free debt-put-in machine for things you don't absolutely need

A family member of mine was targeted by fraudsters who set up a klarna account in their name, all other funds were returned within a day or two but klarna is still yet to return funds, apparently fraudsters know these buy now pay later companies aren't great at dealing with fraud so a lot of funds are funneled through them.

I only used Klarna if I purchased many different sizes on same product and didn’t want to do refunds. Easier to pay for what you actually get and not wait for money to return.

I use klarna a lot, not for the pay later aspect, I’ve never used that feature, but just for easier checkout on a bunch of sites

I never liked the idea of being in debt... the student loan is enough for me What I have been doing recently is spacing out my purchases, and I did consider a payment plan for a phone (I asked the guy at the shop and he said it was the same cost as buying it outright, no interest). I guess I'm trying to analyse my thinking - is it easier to keep track of one way or another? For people less well off than me, monthly payments leaves you with more in your account immediately after the purchase, which could be useful in an emergency.

🎤 Interviewees Wanted! 🎤
For a while now, we've been working on a piece about Buy Now Pay Later products: Klarna, Afterpay / Clearpay, Paypal Pay Later etc.
One idea we've been toying with is to interview a bunch of folks with different experiences of using these apps/products.
And, in pursuit of some interviews, and as I've done before, I thought I'd reach out to all of you lovely people who watch my videos!
Are you (or have you been) a user of BNPL products?
Maybe you've used them to pay for big things. Maybe you've used them to pay for small things. Your experiences might be incredibly positive. Your experiences might be incredibly negative.
We're really looking for a range of experiences and reflections.
Obviously not everyone is happy talking about their spending habits and financial experiences for a large-ish audience. And that's completely fine!
However, if you're someone for whom this does sound like a comfortable experience, and you would be happy to potentially take part in a filmed interview for possible inclusion in a forthcoming video, I'd love to hear from you!
Thanks all!
⏬ Find out how to get in touch below ⏬
P.S. Even if this doesn't sound like something for you, liking and commenting on this post would really help to boost its reach, and help me in making this video the best it can be! So I'd suuuuuper appreciate that too!
