If I do a tutorial series explaining everything I've learnt over the last 7 years, would you prefer the codebase to be in Jai or C?
If it was down to personal preference, I'd say Jai. But I think C would be more valuable to people since everyone has access and can follow along.

Honestly, I've never even heard of Jai 😂 Oh, and keep on rockin mate! You're awesome

@brunosartori8167

please do this series! I'm following the handmade hero tutorials based on your recommendation and would love to see how you progress from there 🙌

I'm actually currently teaching a small game programming course and have wanted so badly to do it in Jai but had to settle for Odin since I obviously can't teach a class in a language that's not publicly available yet. But like someone else mentioned, if you teach it more from a conceptual level it shouldn't affect the content too much whichever you choose. If you plan to do something more like Handmade Hero where you work through a long term project and release the source code, then probably better to go with C so that others can compile it and follow along. And even if you go with C, you can always mix in some small asides to mention where more advanced language features that Jai offers, like polymorphic procedures or metaprogramming, would fit into the picture.

@vapandris

Why not both. Or at least I'd love to hear how Jai made your life easier.

@cl4ym4n

The language should not matter honestly. Applying the important concepts is far more valuable :)

Jai would have more novelty I suppose, and it would mean that once it is released and there’s an influx of people adopting it, they’d have something to refer to other than official docs

Great to see that 17% vote for a language that has not yet been released. I don‘t know how large the poll count is but that is quite promising. The language is great and I encourage all c(++) devs to try it out once it‘s out 😊

@b2rad

I’d like to hear a video on your preferences for Jai and what things it solves better than another language you could have written your game in as well as your experience with it thus far.

@segfaultInBrain

Jai would be cool if people can actually download the compiler.

@lxmcf

With C being such a simple language I feel it's more useful just in general, if you can grasp C you can grasp anything

@jacksonsingleton

You would be like the only public resource on Jai right now. C has been documented for 40 years, you would be the face of Jai knowledge on release.

@ZaxisYT

As someone who's never touched either, it depends on prerequisites coming into it. Should we be familiar with the language to a moderate degree? If so whichever is more accessible up front would be my push. If you go over some simple concepts quickly enough to follow along, for those who are familiar with programming as a whole, I'd ask for C. Or a comparison style would be cool, but more effort on your end of course. Either way the content will be rad to watch, so whichever speaks to you most at the end of the day. Edit: After researching what Jai was, I may be inclined more for that or the comparison idea, even if only for a short while in the beginning.

I think it could be cool if you had a way to do it in c but relate it to jai. Would give a good basis of what jai is. But I agree with the consensus so far, c is more useful to the general

@ZooHair

This is Jai-normous

@Pariatech

I voted Jai because I already know C and want to see what Jai is all about.

@alexkfridges

I think if you focus on conveying the concepts and techniques rather than the specifics of programming then it doesn't matter too much. But C is probably more accessible

@watr_melon

personally i would do whatever is really comfortble. but teach people about jai could be cool

@guygeva7375

I think that Jai content would be really interesting to see, I'd love to learn what is different about this language

@MenkoDany

As someone who recently got into the jai beta, the quality of life improvements as a gamedev are immeasurable... I am voting strongly in favour of Jai, especially because looking at the current state of the beta, I believe that a public beta is coming soon. At worst, you can do both by writing in C-style jai. You can even write a metaprogram which translates it back to C

@KuroSamaMG

Its more work, but how about a comparison between how you’d do it in both?
