Alisa Childers

As Doug Geivett explained, this creates a message to the church, and especially to people who feel spiritually attacked, that they need someone with special skills and knowledge to be free. It gives the impression that only certain people are equipped to help, and that kind of expectation is deeply concerning.

What’s more, some of these same practitioners teach that all Christians have equal authority in Christ—that no one has a special gift or elevated spiritual position when it comes to casting out demons. If that’s true, why do we need specialists? And if all believers are protected by the blood of Christ, why do deliverance ministers teach that they can be demonized?

These contradictions raise legitimate questions that need to be addressed. Want to listen the whole conversation? Follow the link: https://youtu.be/_RzL-Vhk5_o

I share some of your concerns Alisa. But if Christians would be taught basic biblical principles about spiritual battle and deliverance (I was NOT growing up in church), there would be no need for people with "special skills". All believers DO have the authority to "resist the devil and he will flee from you" (James 4). Believers are protected - but not immune from attack (being demonized to varying degrees - not possessed/owned). That's why we need to be prepared for the battle (Ephesians 6) and "sober and alert" so that we can resist the devil (1 Peter 5). When believers aren't taught about this stuff, they are vulnerable to the schemes of the devil. And in many cases, sadly, left to suffer. We need more biblical teaching on how to practically handle stuff like this. Particularly when all the good "normal stuff" (studying & applying Scripture, continual prayer, worship, community with believers, confession/repentance, Christian counseling, etc.) is not bringing freedom from persistent, intense struggles. We should not throw the baby out with the bathwater when some "deliverance practitioners" don't handle things well. Sometimes we need to simply tell evil spirits to leave in Jesus' name, just like we see all through the gospels. And saying that's not valid because it's in the gospels and not the epistles is really concerning to me.

Deliverance ministries teach people how to have no faith in God whatsoever because their god is powerless to save.

You can't make sense of their philosophy regarding the contradictions that arise. They don't seem to care and and are perfectly content with the gnosticism they practice in.

Simple: since deliverance has been made 1-A myth among Christian’s that deny a Christian may need it, 2-A taboo subject pertaining to the dark ages, or an embarrassment because of the abuses, theatrics and tariffs attached to it in history. 3-A lithany of other excuses designed to simply not practice it as the absolutely necessary pastoral tool it is. So that makes finding a deliverance minister with sound theology and a modicum of experience and effectiveness (it is not necessarily that easy as pointed out in Acts 19 and Mark 9) a really noteworthy feat. It shouldn’t be so. It is true that some feisty characters that happen to be Christian and trained in deliverance tend to be hung-ho and puffy but that is why Jesus told his disciples: “So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’ ” Luke 17:20 There are a couple of key truths in there: -be humble. -do your duty. It is OUR duty. So let’s make finfing those ministers less difficult.

You have no clue what you are talking about. You stated that a person oppressed by demons does not warrant deliverance. Stay in your lane and stop dismantling the faith of believers who actually believe in the power of God and the authority given to believers.
