What the hellion! This redesign was based on medieval demons, since that’s what it seems they’re sort of themed after with the horns and how society treats them as ‘bad’. I wanted them to look stereotypically ‘evil’ and off-putting so it’s all the more impactful when you learn the truth, that they are just normal people and that the poppy company is spreading lies about them to justify exploiting their planet for financial gain.
I’ve never liked the idea in scifi of there being species that are wholly good or wholly evil, it’s not realistic to assume entire civilisations of individuals follow the same mindset, and I like the hellions as a direct challenge to that trope. It’s the reason I gravitate towards the daleks and depicting them as individuals with their own personalities and goals in life, they’re the ultimate “this species is inherently bad and evil no matter what” so it’s fun to explore them more under the pretence of “actually what if it was their society that was bad, rather than every single one just being born evil”.
