Paternal grandfather-26, paternal grandmother-19, maternal grandfather-23, maternal grandmother-17. My maternal grandparents married a couple of weeks before my grandmother’s 16th birthday. She was orphaned and wanted out of the strict household where she was living. She said she “never regretted it, either. Not one minute.”

In the 1940s, both my grandmothers started having kids in high school. One had four kids total the other had 10 kids total.

Both sets of grandparents were non-traditional, but for different reasons. Paternal grandmother was 43 when she had her first of 3 children. Grandfather was 44. They were 49 and 50 when my dad was born. Maternal grandmother was 28 and grandfather was 20. Those grandparents divorced after 11 years and remarried 3 years later. Nothing common about their relationship.

My mum, who was born in 1936, had a mum who was 46 and her father was 66 at the time her birth. She didn’t have any living grandparents at the time of her birth. For me as the eldest child my mum was 27 when I was born and my dad was 29. His parents (my paternal grandparents) were 19 and 22 when my dad was born.

My grandparents were an average age of 24.5 when their first children were born. My parents were about a year and a half older than that when their first child was born, but I was about a year younger than the grandparent average when my oldest was born.

Both grandparents have an average of 32. My paternal grandfather was 35 and his second wife (my grandmother) was 29 when they had my father's eldest full sibling in 1944. My maternal grandfather was 35, and her mother was 30 when they had my mother's eldest sibling in 1945. My grandfather did have 3 children with a different wife before he met my grandmother.

Interesting question! I was surprised to realize that my grandparents average age was 28,5. My dad was born 1940, so that is rather old in those times. They had an 11 year age gap though.
