Our first look at Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age is finally here! 😁 The ground sloths here look amazing, as the VFX team always manages to do.
From the looks of it, these guys, to me at least, seem to be the species: Megalonyx jeffersonii, named after its discoverer, former US president Thomas Jefferson back in 1799. This species was very widespread across North America, with its fossils being found as far north as Alaska to down south as Central America, as well as west into California and eastward up to New York.
Also ground sloths are some of my favorite groups of extinct mammals! These guys were truly unique and diverse during their 35 million year existence.
