@Bddz01

Also british immigrants and settlers don't speak the languages of the countries they occupy/colonised such as Australia (aboriginal language(s)), New Zealand (Maori language) the USA (indigenous American languages), Canada (again indigenous languages), South Africa, Ireland (gaelic) etc. They just take English everywhere with them.

@WhySheo

I'm from England and I've lived and worked overseas for over twenty years. In all my time I've never met a Brit who spoke the local language of the foreign country they are living in. And most just hang out together and never really get involved in the local culture or community.

The British empire colonizing virtually the whole globe and now brits crying about immigrants is one of the biggest ironies of the human race

If there’s ever been a group of people that have struggled to assimilate, whether linguistically or culturally, it’s the British. But then again, their goal wasn’t assimilation, it was domination.

Ironic coming from those who at one point "invited" themselves everywhere!

I know a lot of europeans who have been living in my country for years and most of them don't speak a word of the local language.

Salaam brother Paul. What about the 300,000+ Brits working and living in Arab countries, like Dubai, Saudi, Oman, Kuwait, Egypt? One would assume they all speak Arabic fluently.

Nah itd be great if foreigners/immigrants can speak the local language but even if they can't they still can contribute to the country. I get that locals will be annoyed but as long as they work an honest job like many others it really isn't a big deal. It's just these foreigners will find it hard to make friends with locals. Uae, arab saudi, qatar have so many workers from bangladesh, india and pakistan and i doubt majority of them speak fluent Arabic, but look what have they built there. Those skyscrapers you see in the gulf are built by the hands of these foreigners who were most don't speak the local language

These type of politicians are totally inept at solving the country’s economic problems. No ideas for growth or long term stability.

It genuinely baffles me that people think we have some principled stand with our English enclaves in Spain. No the Spanish are sovereign there. I’m happy for them to send them back or require them to assimilate.
