Many people covering movies have the same issues. Random Film Talk has a good video describing in detail how the system works and his experience with it. In short, they are intentionally trying to scare you but if your use case is legit, you can safely file a counter claim. The video is on his second channel, RandomFT2. It's called YouTube's Copyright System is Not Very Good

So sorry about this. I know the feeling of putting in a ton of effort on a video and potentially have it all wasted. You already went this far, just go all the way. I'm rooting for you.

I have dealt with this a lot in the past. 99% of the time if you dispute they will back off. Unfortunately they also usually run out that 30 day clock. It's ridiculous that Youtube threatens you with purgery for filing a false dispute, but never does anything about the millions of false copyright claims. Every claim that is successfully disputed was a false claim and youtube does nothing to stop it.

You have to get up YTs ass about this or they will ignore you. The louder you are the faster they work. They don't want the pr headache.

This really sucks for you Lich. I was actually going to watch your video as soon as it came out but a lot of things happened that required my attention and so I put it into my Watch Later playlist to save for...later. Only for this shit to happen. I feel so bad this happened and I wish I had gotten back to that video sooner. Now I can only hope you get this resolved. Rest assured whatever version of the video comes out, I'm watching it in a femtosecond. Good luck to you man. Hope YouTube actually listens for once.

Consider releasing to the other video platform (green triangle one) as well. You'll be pretty much guaranteed to not be harassed there.

The fact that it said "Claimed by mgm" makes me believe it was a copyright troll. If it were from the actual production company it'd say something like "Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios inc." Apparently there are trolls like this that register similar sounding names so users will get confused and let them keep the "rights" and YouTube has zero validation methods anyways they'll get away with it

Maybe try releasing the video on Patreon? That could be an option

KeyTheLich
I promised you guys an update.
After researching how Youtube's copyright system works, I have the option dispute the claim that hit my video.
It's not 100% clear, but the Email I got seems to indicate that it's still an automated ID claim. (Also, a few private draft versions I had to check copyright issues from before got hit all at the same time, which indicates an auto ID bot, at least to me).
Problem is this. It can take up to 30 days for the claimant to release the hold over the video, in my case, it's a company, not a person. If they fail to respond, the video goes back up. If they double down, I can make an appeal that it's under fair use. (Which should be blatantly obvious to anyone who watched it). If that also fails, I'm forced to delete the video within a week, or my channel gets a strike.

So this is what I've decided. Because the dispute system might take up to a month, and with a good chance of not making a difference anyway, I'm going to re-release another version with an additional overlay and some minor changes. If THAT gets taken down, then I'm at a loss for what to do.
The video may end up going back into the oven. I'll just have to add more variation of clips from other sources not in the film all over the place until the claim goes away. If I do that, there's no telling when the video will come back.
Obviously, I'm not a fan of this option, because I was planning on moving on to many more projects for the channel.

The new version should be fully processed, and I'll try to release it tomorrow. (The image below is from the new one). Thanks for all the support and understanding.
I may make a separate video detailing my experience with this video in general. For closure if nothing else.
