Get ready for a *SPECIAL* video on Monday: Earlier this year, Karen and I had the extreme pleasure of working on a pitch for a kids show called Outdoor Ed! I play Ed, a 20-foot-tall mountain man who wants to make a nature show with the help of his woodland friends and his sweet (if a little self-serious) producer, Business Duck (played by Victor Yerrid). Working on this allowed me to achieve two of my biggest dreams: hosting a kids show, and playing a character who is really tall.

It has stop motion and puppets and beautiful physical sets made by some of the best artists and craftspeople and puppet wranglers (official title) in the industry, and I cannot overstate how much fun it was to make. The show is all about the joys of creating things with your friends, and the experience of making this proof-of-concept video was much the same. We all volunteered to make this because we loved the show idea, so I feel no shame when I say:

PLEASE SHARE THIS VIDEO ON MONDAY! With your family! Your friends! The kids in your life! Anyone who loves silly songs, or nature shows, or art made by passionate humans! Even if the show never gets picked up, I'm so proud to publish it on my channel, and I hope it brings a little joy to your day. I can't wait for you to see it!

Imagine a generation of kids growing up and learning that Mr Rodgers read every Halo novel.

Teens in 2040 when they look up the host of that TV show they used to watch as kids, only to discover psychological horror short films: 😨

Now that I think about it, Brian totally has the right vibe to host a kids' show. He's like if Steve from Blue's Clues had chaos flowing through his veins.

I have a weird feeling that in 40 years Brian David Gilbert is going to be a beloved grandfatherly figure like an American Bernard Cribbins

I never expected Brian to do something like this, but considering his whimsicalness, and after seeing the screenshot of this show, now it makes a lot of sense to me

Somehow BDG making a pivot into making Henson-esque kids TV makes so much sense and this is SUCH a cool and exciting direction to see you both going in!!!! Crossing everything for y’all that this works out!!!!

If BDG's next career move is to become the next generation's Lunette the Clown or Big Friendly Giant, the future is in good hands.

I just want you to know my six year old already loves a lot of your work. Her favorites are pumpkin cowboy (of course) the caterpillar song, and the laptop wizard sketch. I’m really excited to show her this, and I know she’ll be excited when I tell her about it! Really looking forward to this

@rachesteph

From the description and stills this looks like a PBS show I would have been obsessed with in the 90s

I'm hoping this show gets picked up! Even just looking at the photos and reading about how much work you put into it, this is the kind of thing that the world needs right now. A show about expressing your creativity.

If the songs and visuals are half as heart-warming and thought-provoking as Pumpkin Cowboy... Well, this show is basically already on its third season at least. Godspeed, BDG!

I imagine that the video getting the YouTube kids treatment, therefore not allowing comments, is intentional. So I'm just gonna put my feedback in here, really good video as always BDG

God, this isn't even a real show yet and it's already making me emotional. First off, it's incredibly charming (Love me some puppetry and stop-motion), but what gets me so much is the concept. Ed is giant. He can do whatever he wants. He even points out how he's the only person as tall as he is. But he keeps in mind that everyone around him is smaller. That everyone has felt small at some point. And so he chooses kindness. His power isn't unlimited, sure, but he could lord over the rest of the forest. But no. He chooses to be kind and friendly and to help people out and to teach people about how beautiful the world really is. Genuinely, I hope this becomes a real show, purely because this is clearly a true labor of love, and it makes me so incredibly happy to see real genuine people make something that's genuinely pure-hearted.

As someone who grew up on The Friendly Giant and Mr. Dressup, take it as the highest of praise that this is giving Friendly Giant and Mr. Dressup vibes.

I'd never thought of you as having kids tv host energy, but now I can't think of a better way to describe it. As a parent, I'm genuinely so excited to watch this with my 4 yo. Both because I get to share something age appropriate with her made by I creator I love, but also more importantly, because you're clearly taking the responsibility seriously. Genuine silliness can be a hard tone to hit without leaning into sarcasm, but it's essential for good kids content, and I think you are possibly the most qualified in that regard. TL;DR - can't wait to watch this with my daughter, love that this has the complete opposite energy of "let's monetise kids attention for ad revenue"
