Forwards or backwards facing snorkel? šŸ¤”

@davidgalea6113

As someone who keeps his snorkel, and baseball cap sideways I am offended by the lack of inclusivity.

Backwards for practical purpose, but front looks so much better and slight ram effect makes intake sound awesome

I like the vacuum whistle i can hear on mine when it is backwards. I’m a simple man.

The original plastic design looks better when it is forward facing. But the stainless rear facing also looks good the induction sound is always entertaining, any snorkel gives your vehicle a visual and practical cool factor. šŸ‘šŸ» My current favourite snorkel is the original plastic design with a donaldson precleaner as it is less common to see on vehicles in South africa so my hilux atleast looks a little different compared to the others driving aroun

The intake noises of a backwards facing snorkel are unbeatable šŸ‘Œ

Nothing beats the old cyclonic filter 🤘

Backwards facing doesn't get a high pressure air build up, preventing the engine from breathing. Air slows down as it bottle necks trying to flow into the snorkel. Backwards facing creates a low pressure pocket with the surrounding air creating a venturi effect, helping the engine to breath better IMHO. Would be good to get a barometer and put it inside the snorkel and read it's pressure driving with the snorkel forwards and backwards to confirm my theory though? I don't own a 4WD or diesel to test this theory though? Forward facing also can act like a baseball mit to catch sticks and flowers off trees, and because of forwards direction these will break off. Backwards facing and driving forwards means these things can't break off and fall down the snorkel

Forward is best for intake but just turn backwards for big water crossings. Most are easy turned. Best of both ways šŸ‘

Also helps reducing dust being sucked in when in convoy too.. less cleaning of filters.

Forwards for regular road driving for the tiny ram effect, spin the head rearward for bush to minimize the sticks and leaf litter getting into the snorkel. You'd be surprised what can get collected in them.

Forward facing just looks better

I have mine turned 90 degrees towards center of the windshield. It was facing backwards before that, but mud from the rear tyres used to cover it completely...

Living in the South west of the UK it rains 70% of the time so backwards is the best way for me but forward facing looks so much better.

I thought someone disproved the air ram idea a while ago, that facing a snorkel forward made no difference to the positive air pressure in the intake manifold?

Unless your driving in reverse into water, backwards. Come down to any atv or off-road park and all of them are backwards

Ive had both and i like the rear facing because stays alot cleaner for longer but thats just my experience with both and my driveway is 120ks of dirt rd

Backwards is more effective but frontwards looks cool

Rear facing is the practical application. Forward facing picks up debris from low hanging branches, it also creates a bit of a hook that can catch on vegetation Forward facing is more esthetically pleasing.

I have had both backwards seems to be a lot better on filters but is that because not getting to as much air. I feel we need a middle option with a sideways turn accross the top of the windscreen

@fluxy_fox

Backward is better because it makes it so the water can't go over the hood and into it
