The Elliott Homestead

We're entering into a very exciting month here on the homestead - lambing month! We still have two sheep from our original Katahdin herd, a hair-sheep (no shearing required) known for its meat production. They're very old now, but still with us. Last year, we also welcomed two new dairy ewes onto the farm and subsequently kept three of their daughters. That means we've got seven ewes in total to keep eyes on - five of those have bellies and bits hidden under huge wool coats! After twelve years of having sheep, it's always still a bit of an adventure. The girls do also get a winter supplement of grain to keep them plump and happy during their pregnancies. In our harsh, Northern winters, it's a welcomed addition to their diet. (Photographed is Will and Pepper.) Can't wait to meet the new little ones!
