I’m absolutely for bosses punishing the player for recklessly healing right in front of them, but some of ER’s bosses felt undeniably cheap to me. DS3 was the game that seemingly had this the most before ER, but that game usually operates by three rules. 1) The boss cannot punish you if you’re healing in the middle of their attack animation that you dodged. 2) The boss cannot punish you if you are a certain distance away from them when healing. 3) The boss’ punishing attack can potentially be avoided entirely if you time your dodges well. ER doesn’t seem to operate by any of these concepts. The Crucible Knight will just straight up get out of its most recent animation just to dance across the arena with repeated gap closers until it hits you.

I remember my first real heal catch years ago, Ds1, was finally learning to Parry before getting to Anor Londo on the Black Knights. Missed one on the Halberd guy in Darkroot Basin and panic rolled and healed, dude thrusted me down into the pit.

I’ve been hearing here and there that the ER bosses are like DS2 bosses but more intelligent(they track ALL your inputs instead of simply reacting to your healing) idk if they track your inputs in all the games tho
