Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics

Public service announcement: PUT DOWN THE PARTS CANNON and do some RESEARCH!!! 2013 Subaru Outback came into this shop with a slipping transmission at 59k miles. They replaced the VALVE BODY because "it's a Subaru" 🤦‍♂️
Actual problem was a sliced speed sensor signal wire under the car setting a P2750. 15 minute Diagnosis and No Parts Required Repair!!

@SouthMainAuto

Let's be honest... Eventually it was going to need a valve body 😅

@CSkwirl

No Head Gasket replacement?..... It's a Subaru

@volvo09

One would think before throwing expensive parts at a car related to the transmission you'd address codes for critical inputs such as speed sensors.

@tjbrower

I wish I had you or someone like you around me. It’s the parts cannon most places I go!

I hope they get their money back for the valve body that wasn’t the problem. SMH

@kipamore

What's crazy to me is that in that entire list, the ONLY thing that isn't just a generic code is the speed sensor. Why wouldn't you go there first? It's external. That said, I see this a lot - "zombie diagnosis" where over the years the tech has learned patterns on certain vehicles, and those are hard to shake. I'm just as guilty of it as anybody.

@LMAutoRepairs

There are new and updated parts cannons out there! It is only a shame that many still use the old versions... That's the problem... 😂

Tired of customers being charged for the parts cannon. If parts are replaced and the issue is not resolved....that's on the shop. Including labor! More often than not, the customer keeps paying until/if the shop fixes the issue.

@carnold.knowledge

Ivan, I’ve been watching you for years now. Even though I don’t have a scope yet, your knowledge has pushed me from parts cannon to parts squirt gun using more data driven diagnosis, and it has paid off with the 6 cars that I maintain. Thank you so much for sharing.

@CampingNstuff

So in thses cases do the customers normally follow up with the last shop with getting back their money ? I mean if my car was misdiagnosed to this degree I would want a full refund at the minimum.

@fmbfla

Yes check the circuit, verify the sensor....... but. Good find kudos.

@cclngthr

Eric at South Main Auto posted a video of this but the car had no headlights. Issue was under the fuse box.

@cullenmiller8170

But you can charge the customer so much more by selling all those unnecessary parts and some just keep coming back for more. 🤣

@brianw8963

There’s always exceptions, but I’m sure the “ shop” didn’t charge for not fixing the problem, surely not! That hardly ever happens! 👍👍
