Figured I should probably drop by and say something. I try not to waste time with updates/saying something unless there's something relevant to say. For me it's the same old story, super swamped working on a series that's quite demanding of my time. You know that feeling when you run a marathon (or a half or just 5k) and at the end of it you feel great for a job well done, but while you're in it it's a total cluster bomb and you're like "why do I do this to myself?" That's the stage i'm in currently, I've got a few scripts on the go for developed ideas, but no gas at the end of the day to shoot.
Unfortunately for me, if I can't put 100% of my energy into a video for this platform (even though nobody's asking for it, or nobody's paying me) I can't help but treat it like I do with anything I work on. I don't want to waste my time and most importantly I don't want to waste YOUR time if I can't put 100% effort behind it. I'll get back into a more consistent groove eventually...until then, if you don't have ENOUGH to watch lol.
A long time friend and colleague of mine (who's the most talented DP I've ever worked with) did shoot a beautiful (silent) camping video with his g/f and his dog. It's a great example of images without words and how they can tell a story, but also a nice visual experience to virtually get out of (in my case, the edit suit). He's best known for the tv series Departures (travel, check it out as well), Descending (a travel underwater dive series) and a Sailing series (Over the Horizon) so he's no slouch when it comes to capturing enticing visuals.
Go check it out if you've got 12 mins, make sure your HDR is turned up, drop him a "hello" as well. If you're still on instagram check out @andre_dupuis for some photographic magic.
The next step is to get him shooting with vintage lenses ;) when I get the Ironglass mark II's back, I'm going to get him to shoot something that really demonstrates their value ;)
Thanks for your time, hope everybody is doing well/keeping healthy and finding inspiration!
