Space Beetle

So, according to Musk, it took ~40 seconds from activation of the FTS until Starship finally broke up...What a beast!
SpaceX will have to get bigger explosives.

@LeftOverMacNCheese

Have 3 failed engine at launch, all at 90% throttle, absolutely destroy the launch pad throwing debris at supersonic speed in all direction, still manage to clear the tower, a literal explosion to one of the hydraulic unit mid flight, lose 3 more engine, reach MaxQ, failed separation and proceed to cartwheel at hypersonic at 30km altitude, experience all that centrifugal force with a fully loaded second stage full with hundreds of tons of fuel. FTS: "how many time do we have to teach you this lesson old man!?" Still take 40 second for the first and second stage to disintegrate with a literal hole in it's side.

3 engines failed before the start. The launch pad disintegrated during the liftoff. Bombarding the preserved nature with concrete and other stuff. Lots of damage in the launch facility. Explosions after 30s. More exploding engines after 60s. Far to low thrust all the way up. Engine shut down didn't work. Total loss of control. FTS failed. This is the new definition for success.

The rocket is a stainless steel monster! OK I presume the interstaging was designed strong enough to survive flipping end-to-end during the "trebuchet" ullage maneuver which we never got to see unfortunately. At the time I had this weird idea in my head that the controllers flipped the rocket intentionally to force a separation - the way the live feed was scripted it cut to the interstage section... then nothing.. then a telescope view of the rocket tumbling.

Yeah I agree 40 seconds to unzip the rocket is way to long. It could go a long way out of range in 40 seconds.

@ukar69

It looks like the three engines out on lift off was due to them shutting down because something wasn't right. Even with five engines out, a destroyed HPU and a couple of holes in the side, it didn't want to die.

Ha! I can't wait a few seconds for an elevator without spamming the call button half a dozen times 🤣 I would love to see a video from SpaceX of how many times the FTS controller spammed that (presumably) Big Red Button in the 40 seconds. Now that would be a killer Elon Meme Tweet....literally
