Making a little JD macquette to aid me in my endeavors. His body isn't much to look at so here's his head, which I'm rather proud of. Not proud of his left ear breaking pretty much immediately- I think cloth ears might work a bit better going forward. Polymer clay is hard as hell and rolling it out all night has caused lasting pain in my metacarpals. But hey if it's good enough for James Gurney then I can suck it up. Just finished his other book, Imaginative Realism. Main thing I took away was not to get lazy in the planning stages. That's been my philosophy for a while now tbh but this brings it to another level, this guy goes through some grueling shit to do what he does. Might have to check out the Dinotopia books. I watched the show as a kid and thought it was the lamest shit ever but that's probably on account of it being like a 90's/2000's live action television series which, probably the worst possible time and medium to adapt something like Dinotopia? If there's a worse way out there I can't think of it. Tiktok shorts maybe. Idk
The point is I'm still working on shit. And it's pretty cool working with Clay again after all these years.

If polymer clay becomes too much of a hassle for you, Apoxie sculpt is always a good alternative! It's a bit pricier but for me it's honestly worth it 😌
