WOW. I wish I had a parent explain this concept to me when I was a teenager. This explains the reason I always have done the bare minimum.

It’s like the chess player who has studied every move and prepared as if his life depended on it, or the athlete who always goes the extra 4 miles in practice. Conversely, playing to avoid failure is a passive pursuit that prioritizes appearances and ego over substance. It's fear of ridicule, or being regarded a failure, etc.
Look at your life and be honest with yourself.
