I work in pediatric cancer research and why I felt it was important to comment this. If you see this, want to support this cause, and live in the US, please call your reps about and in opposition to the NIH funding freeze and cuts. Large chunks of time, kids with cancer enter clinical trials as their last chance to save their lives. Standard of care treatments (chemo, immunotherapy, radiation, etc) are already outdated by the time of FDA approval. Approval takes around 10 years, given a few variables. It is directly impacting our patients right now - meaning these kids don’t have access to these treatments and will die without it. We’ve reduced cancer mortality rates by 34% in the last 30 years - backed by NIH funding. If stopping cancer is no longer a concern and the overall priority is supposed to be reducing federal spending, every $1 of NIH funding generated approximately $2.46 of economic activity in 2023. All of this info can be found on the American Association for Cancer Research’s website. I don’t mean this comment maliciously, Gibi. Just trying to spread the word wherever relevant 💛
