He explained that with a State Burial, the state takes full control, including selecting the venue, which often ends up being the Independence Square in Accra. This, he argues, could overshadow the cultural and emotional significance of burying Lumba closer to home.
“When it comes to funeral tourism, the Ashanti Region leads,” he said. “Lumba was intentional about his roots, from referencing Nsuta in his songs to honouring his mother’s legacy. Holding the funeral in his home region would reflect that same intentionality and make it more meaningful.”
