if I shoot a bottle full of water at 150yd it splits it both sides. If I shoot one empty it's through n through. That's with pretty much anything 223 and 556 from 75gr down to 55gr. It takes mass to incur serious damage. Not much mass in an ear. So basically it's the same result as a paper target. Even with the crack of the shock wave. A much slower round would have made a mess of it.
