Doraemon, Ninja Hattori, Shin Chan. Used to watch these dubbed in my language back in early 2000s. Never knew they were anime or that they were Japanese originally. First "anime" I watched knowing it was anime was Naruto. Came a long way since then. Watched so many anime till I got bored of it; went to read manga/manhwa/webtoons till i got bored of that too. Got into reading LNs, but hard to find a story i like nowadays. Now, I mostly watch/read for nostalgia.

Dragon Ball Z was technically my first anime, but I'd say what really started me looking more into anime was Naruto.

It's a pretty standard story, but the answer depends on what counts as being "into anime." Technically, the first anime I watched were the typical tie-ins. Pokemon, Digimon, and Yugioh, mainly. I literally do not remember life before watching those shows, but Pokemon was my main obsession. Honestly, though, I had no idea what an anime even was back then. It was more about being into those specific franchises and games. Naruto was the first anime I watched that was just a direct adaptation of a manga and not doubling as a commercial for some other product, but it was still pretty much just exclusively Naruto. I wasn't an "anime fan" anymore than someone who only likes Star Wars is a "sci-fi fan." After that, it gets blurry, but Soul Eater, FMA, SAO, AoT, Deadman Wonderland, Future Diary, Black Lagoon, Hellsing Ultimate, and Elfen Lied were all in the mix. Mostly just whatever was on TV that I happened to catch. Soul Eater feels like the oldest memory of the lot, though. So, it's one of these: 1. Pokemon, technically my first anime 2. Naruto, my first standalone anime 3. Soul Eater, when I realized I like anime

Higurashi is really good, yeah if you're easily scared, it will not be for you, but the story and characters are really good, it's a must watch in my opinion
