@buckysrevenge

You need to make sure there aren't any extra bits hanging on, wipe it down firmly with some 80-grit sandpaper

I think you’re supposed to put that on a record player to unlock the secret CD quality playback mode

@FoxWolfWorld

They’re called hard drives not soft drives. If it can’t handle this then it wasn’t strong enough

The discs make excellent splash cymbals/hi hat! You can build a sweet mini drum set out of computer parts!

Believe it or not I ran a 5 MB Seagate topless in the bodged together XT class machine I was using in my first real technician job in the late 80s , and never had a problem lol

@javiergt

If for any reason you hear some kind of screeching noise just apply some WD-40 while the disk is spinning, to improve readability

You’re laughing. Action Retro abuses technology and you’re laughing.

They work the same way as Nintendo cartridges - just blow on the plate and rub it on your shirt... Works every time.

Back in the early 90s, hard drives occasionally suffered from "stiction", where they would get stuck if powered off. I watched a technician crack open a Sun workstation hard drive and give the platter a spin, and then put the cover back on, so it would actually spin up. So, I have actually witnessed someone push-start a hard drive. So... put me on the side of "you'll be fine." 😆

@pizzamech3000

No. But make sure to give it some water too so it doesn’t dry out.

Add magnets. Lots of magnets.

If you just apply some vintage to the actuator, you'll have some cool speakers 😎

The drive heads look like they could use a little chalk, to give them the readable grip they need. Throw some in.

Experts say that keeping your hard drive from fresh air could reduce its life span. So nah it's good.

@kingedwin

It can spoil if left out too long. Maybe check the freshness with a quick taste.
