At dusk on Grime Street in Barnsley, rain pounded the stone terraces and gutters overflowed. Behind a fogged window, Daisy D’Wallpaper watched her wallpaper curl away from the wet walls and whispered to herself, “Oh no—my walls are weeping!”
Far below, in a dark, musty cellar, Dry Rot and High Humidity cackled as mould blossomed around cracked mortar. But high above the moors, storm clouds split apart to reveal a lone, bald figure striding forward—coat tails flapping, toolbelt gleaming.
With a thunderous kick, the Super Dampproofer burst through the cellar door, steam and spores swirling around his head as he seized his damp meter and caulking gun. Before he could speak, a trench-coated horror slithered up from beneath a broken floorboard—Rising Damp, salt crystals glinting on his shoulders, sludge dripping from his grin. “You forgot me!” he rasped.
Undaunted, the hero struck an imposing pose, caulking gun aloft, damp meter ready. From every shadow lunged Dry Rot’s spore-blades, High Humidity’s choking mist and Rising Damp’s crawling fingers. With a roar, the Super Dampproofer unleashed his turbo fan cannon, blasting the villains back and scattering their foul vapours.
Atop the cellar stairs, Daisy gasped and collapsed into the hero’s arms, saved from the noxious fumes in a single, fluid motion. Rising Damp retaliated by flinging jagged floor tiles through the air—but the Super Dampproofer countered with his sub-floor moisture sensor, slicing through the chaos like a blade.
He then trained his chemical injection gun on the timber beams. Crystal slurry hissed into every crack, forming a glowing white barrier that sealed out moisture in an instant. High Humidity swelled into a massive water-laden cloud, only to be met by the hero’s trusty dehumidifier. It hissed and hummed, siphoning gallons of damp from the air until the villains staggered under its power.
Dry Rot screamed as his spores recoiled. Rising Damp sagged against the newly sealed wall, salt crystals dissolving into harmless brine. The final confrontation moved to the rooftops, where the Super Dampproofer swung from chimney to chimney on his caulking-rope line, cornering the three fiends on the rain-slick slates. With one flawless uppercut, Dry Rot crumbled into dust, and Rising Damp shattered into nothing more than harmless droplets.
As High Humidity wavered and dissolved into crisp morning air, shafting sunbeams revealed a rejuvenated Barnsley below. Daisy pulled herself free of the hero’s embrace and grinned up at him. “You’ve saved my home—and my wallpaper!” she exclaimed. Standing triumphant upon the roof, the Super Dampproofer surveyed his victory, the wind catching his coat tails.
Below him, scrawled across the dawn sky, the promise lingered: TO BE CONTINUED…
