Someone posted on reddit Hive on a hyperbolic plane! How cool is that, and how didn't I think of that earlier? www.reddit.com/r/hive/s/HzNTGrcFq0

How many other possibilities are out there if we use irregular tessellation? Maybe not very practical in real life but quite possible to play digitally.. I really want to see this on HG one day!

Do you have other ideas?

I like hyperbolic grids. Hiveperbolic would be pretty fun if it was playable! I’m not sure how to feel about the combination of multiple piece shapes though. Maybe there could be four hexagons around each vertex instead 😊

Siiick. I wonder if you'd need more pieces (maybe an extra ant each) to counteract the increased difficulty of surrounding the queen (7 spaces vs 6) Also I think grasshoppers are much more flexible in Hive-perbolic space because they actually have a choices in direction when jumping over a heptagon. I am curious why your diagram shows a tessellation of hexagons and heptagons when regular heptagons alone can tile the hyperbolic plane. It seems more in the hive spirit to play with just one shape of piece, otherwise the game has a "terrain" where different behaviour occurs in different parts of the board. Very un-hive like

@zushyart

What if there was a 3D version of hive, where beetles stack in the 4th dimension, visualised by pieces inside others?
