Retro Claude

Hi Team!

Just a note to say no video this week because I'm trying to be sensible with my pacing. I have a very busy few weeks ahead so I'm trying to batch some relatively low energy videos now that I won't disappear completely for a month.... because I've never done that before!

Anyway, I realised recently we've never done a Q&A on this channel. So I thought now is the perfect time.

Comment your questions below and depending on how many there are I will try and answer it in the video.

And if you're wondering what I'm up to that is taking me away from you for so long. Well I'm making a 3 layer tear away trick suit for an onstage quick change where a character has to go from 1970s US police man, to wannabe John Travolta, back to 1970s US police man in the space of a single song!

By a weird twist of fate this is not my first 1970s US police costume but it is my first 1970s disco suit. Wish me luck!

Have you ever tried tatting with a shuttle or with a needle? Have you met any members of the Royal Family? Do you speak any foreign languages? Hope you are having a good day! ❤🦆🧶

What are your favourite vintage patterns to knit/crochet? E.g garments, hats, socks etc and what is your favourite item you have ever made for you?

Oh, I have an even better question than the handspu one... if you could custom create the perfect yarn, what would be its characteristics? (How many strands, direction of twist, how tightly twisted, how thick or thin, fiber blend (bamboo, wool, silk, cotton alpaca, mohair, etc) how bouncy or drapey.... all those good things. As a handspinner, I'd love to see if I can create the perfect yarn based off your specificatiins

What is your favorite garment you ever made (across sewing, knitting and crochet)? And why?

I love hearing you talk and think about the process and decisions when making things especially 1940s. What about this era makes it so special to you? And what is more fun, planning, doing or the end result of a project?

@yvonneknits

What is the most vintage pattern you have ever knit? What is it that draws you to 1940s era knitting? Love your channel!!! 💕💕

What is one craft item you can't get rid of for the emotional value, not the physical value? For example, it is your first dress dress, something that you wore to an important place, or an item you worked for professional reasons.

When you're knitting or sewing, do you craft in silence or do you like to listen to/watch things?

Thinking along the lines of your daisy maker, are there any other vintage/antique tools or gadgets you'd love to try?

I don't know if I have a question, but I find stories of your experiences as a professional sewist super interesting. Also, good luck!

@shyladwynter

What are your best tips to working with vintage patterns (sewing, knitting, and otherwise)? And how do you do your math when it comes to knitting projects? I’m completely self taught so when you mention spreadsheets and such my brain just goes “wait, math? How did I not learn about this?”

@simonrobson1929

Good luck! Would love to know more about some of the knitwear you wear but haven't talked about really in your videos. An instance would be a pink "forties" one a blue cardigan and a darkish blue one with a front button placket. Not sure if I'm remembering correctly from the brief glimpses! Really enjoying what you are doing and dispite the angst and headache it often gives you your stash busting attempt, you are an example to us all and have really spurred me on. X

@leaf2576

With how much musical theatre work you've done, would you consider yourself a "theatre kid?" Do you have any favorite shows or favorite costumed ones?
