Who had the better overall Presidency? (Comment why)

@JRivera473

It’s unfortunate that Grant was naive and too trusting, because his presidency had a lot of promise but the men on his administration were corrupted.

Eisenhower had a better and more accomplished presidency, but what makes Grant special is he's one of the few presidents who Id call a genuinely good man

Grant was a great man who tried his best, but didn't have the best presidency. Love him as a general and man though. Eisenhower built the interstate system and presided over arguably the strongest economic decade in American history.

Eisenhower even warned us of the military industrial complex. Way to go boomers

Grant was slandered by the Lost Cause Myth

You cannot compare the two. President Grant was leading a country trying to find its way forward after a horrific civil war. President Eisenhower was riding the wave of victory and prosperity after a horrific war that the ‘united’ US helped win.

Ulysess S Grant, best President of The United States of America. He won the civil war, crushed the kkk, was the one that began the transcontinental railroad, defender of Blacks, Natives, Mexican Americans in the US. Did reforms to protect and defend ALL Americans. A Real Captain America. Makes me proud to be an American. 🎉

None of you are even aware of Grant's Presidency. Y'all just think of cOrRuPtIoN. He killed the Klan that didn't rise back up again till Woodrow Wilson. He created the DOJ. He was practically the first Civil Rights President. Eisenhower set the stage for the Cuban Missile Crisis by putting missiles in Turkey. He wasn't bad. Don't get me wrong. But Grant had a better Presidency

Ike just for the interstate highway systems alone.

Grant faced a far more difficult situation than did Eisenhower. Grant had to manage reconstruction in the South, having to deal with civil insurgency and corrupt administrators. For Eisenhower, most of the heavy lifting constructing a post ww2 order was performed by Truman. That the US was at the apex of its geopolitical influence was something Eisenhower inherited, not built. In decisions that Eisenhower made, on overthrowing a democratically elected government in Iran, his failure to recognized nationalist sentiment was dominant in Eygpt, not communism, were terrible calls with adverse consequences with us still today.

Two Presidents in two different eras after two devastating conflicts.

I mean, Grant was a great man, but had a lot of corruption in his administration. Ike basically built our interstate system. I mean, that’s a huge accomplishment. I’m going with Eisenhower.

Operation Wetback was the greatest immigration action taken in the last 75 years.

Love me Grant, wish he knew his men better. One of the most just presidents we ever had.

Grant had alot less to deal with. He just needed to get the country rolling again. That made his presidency a whole lot better for him.

I’ll go with Eisenhower. He created the interstate highway which founded modern day transportation he also made the first steps to ending segregation in America and had pretty good foreign policy.

I know I'm early but there's no way Ike should be losing this 🥀

I’m going Grant. The best of Eisenhower’s accomplishments came from appointing Earl Warren to the Supreme Court, which he said was his greatest regret. Grant on the other hand had a literal rebellion in the South with the KKK and he laid down the law. He also created the Justice Department and while much of his administration was corrupt, anywhere he saw corruption he attacked it. If you want an example see what he did when some men tried to buy up all the U.S. gold supplies.

Ike was lucky to have a stable and healthy economy; Grant had to rebuild the nation. Grant was compromised by corrupt subordinates; Ike had few problems in that context.

This is a tough one. Eisenhower was a better judge of character, but the Civil Rights movement was blossoming and he could have done more with that. Grant, on the other hand, did a lot to further civil rights and voters rights, but he became victim to electoral exhaustion over committing troops to protect black voters over and over again. The election of his successor ended Reconstruction and rewarded violent voter suppression efforts in the South, with devastating consequences.
